The translation of "Aprendo Contigo" is "Learning with you".
Our program is called "Learning with you " because it is a learning and enriching process that benefits both the volunteers and the children of our program through the exchange of experiences, feelings and knowledge. Our sick children many times give us lessons of courage, hope and faith that we would not be able to experience elsewhere.

There is no unique work methodology; it depends on the circumstances the group of children is immersed in. We are oriented to work according to the groups’ needs, allowing the child to express his feelings, point of view, interests, games thru an active methodology and the elaboration of projects. Because we work with sick children we have to be very flexible depending of how they are feeling. We work with the children on an individual basis or in groups, according to their health and disposition. With the children who cannot attend the classroom we work in their bedrooms.

Every day, besides their work, they do some handcraft. Aprendo Contigo is an educational-recreational program in agreement with the needs of the Peruvian child patient. This program is adapted to our reality as the children from the four locations it assists come from different zones of the country, with different levels of instruction, and even different languages. The difficulty of interaction with Quechua speaking children was solved by using flash cards containing common phrases, which facilitate communication between the educational assistant and the child. 

Finding out that numerous children patients had different abilities; the teaching methodology was turned into an inclusive system. This has been a challenge; Aprendo Contigo faced it acquiring specialized material and training the Educational Assistants in its use. 

Aprendo Contigo offers the educational programs of Early Stimulation, Pre-school, Basic, Regular and High School. When evaluating a child at his/her admission to the hospital, and in order to place him/her in the adequate grade, we have proven that it not always corresponds with the grade he attends in his place of origin. Therefore, the Program Works with a multi-grade classroom system, grouping children from different grades and having them work with a common motivating theme and developing it, each one in accordance with the requirements of his school grade. Each child is given work in accordance with the assigned grade within the following areas provided by the Ministry of Education: Personal Social, Integral Communication, Logics-Mathematics, Science and Ecology: Thus the educational assistant or volunteer then turns into a guide for him, giving him support and supervising his work.

In the afternoons, the program is recreational, counting with a number of educational games as well as material for handcrafts and different activities that develops the creativity  of the children.

Aprendo Contigo has official recognition by Ministerial Resolution Nr. 1031-2003. This enables us to extend a certificate which facilitates de re-assimilation of the children to their school class.
